Questions are divided into three categories: Category 1 carries 1 mark per question with negative marking, Category 2 carries 2 marks with higher negative marking, and Category 3 includes one or more correct options with 2 marks and no negative marking. Candidates appearing in both papers are eligible for engineering and pharmacy courses, while those appearing only in Paper II are eligible for pharmacy courses only.

Marking Scheme Highlights

1. In case of a wrong answer, 1/4 marks will be deducted in Category 1 question, 1/2 in Category 2 and there is no negative marking in Category 3 questions.
2. Not attempting the question will fetch zero mark.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The candidate’s eligibility for WBJEE  Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:-

Nationality

Applicant must be a citizen of India OR OCI (subject to the approval of the Competent Authority). OCI candidates will be eligible for only Unreserved seats in All India quota.

Age Limit & Relaxation

Lower Age Limit : The lower age limit for the WBJEE exam should be 17 years .

1. The lower age limit is 17 (seventeen) years.

2. However, for admission to the degree-level Marine Engineering Course, the upper age limit is 25 Years.

Note : Candidates with a valid rank/ score in JEE Main are exempted from WBJEE.

Educational Qualification

For admission to Pharmacy courses

1. Candidate must have passed the Qualifying Examination i.e., the ‘10+2’ examination with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Computer Science / Computer Application/Technical Vocational Subject as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode.

2. Must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category e.g., SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) in the above three subjects taken together.

3. Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks.

4. The Board of the said Qualifying Examination must be recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned.

For admission to five-Year Degree Course in Architecture

1. As per the norms and standards of the Council of Architecture (COA), No candidate shall be admitted to an architecture course unless she/he has passed an examination at the end of the 10+2 scheme of examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together with individual pass marks and also 50% marks in aggregate of the 10+2 level examination.

2. Candidate must also qualify for the NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture (COA), New Delhi. However, further notification in this regard, if any issued by COA/ NTA also may be applied.

For admission to Marine Engineering

1. As per the norms and standards of the Director General of Shipping, Government of India, Candidates must pass Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent examination from a recognized Council/Board in regular class mode with:

Domicile Rules/ Criteria

Unlike other states, there are no strict domicile rules for seeking admission in B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ B.Arch courses through WBJEE. However, there are some important domicile rules that the applicants need to check -

Domicile Rule 1: Candidates aspiring for admission in Government Colleges/ Jadavpur University must be the permanent residents of West Bengal. Students from other states are not eligible for admission in Government Engineering/ Pharmacy colleges located in West Bengal.

Domicile Rule 2: Reservation quota and policies are applicable for West Bengal domicile students only.

Domicile Rule 3: Candidates who have been permanently staying in West Bengal for 10 or more than 10 years are eligible for above-mentioned policies.

IMPORTANT DATES

The entrance examination is scheduled to take place on 24 May 2026 in offline (OMR-based) mode at exam centres across West Bengal and selected locations outside the state. The admit card is expected to be issued on 15 May 2026, and the results are likely to be announced in June 2026.

EXAM ANALYSIS

The WBJEE 2025 paper was moderate in overall difficulty, but it was lengthy and tricky because of calculation load and mixed concepts. The paper was not very difficult conceptually, but time management was the biggest challenge, especially in Mathematics. Students who were conceptually clear and avoided guesswork performed better.

Mathematics Paper (Paper I) – WBJEE 2025
Mathematics was the toughest and most time-consuming section in 2025. Many questions involved lengthy calculations, especially from calculus, coordinate geometry and matrices. Questions were concept-based rather than direct formula-based, and Category-2 questions were slightly tricky. Topics like limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, straight lines, circles, vectors and probability had noticeable weightage. Even well-prepared students found it difficult to attempt all questions, so question selection was very important.

Physics Section – WBJEE 2025
Physics was of moderate difficulty. Most questions were numerical and application-based, but not very lengthy. Mechanics, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction and modern physics dominated the paper. Some questions required multi-step thinking, but formulas were mostly standard. Category-3 questions tested concept clarity, especially in electricity and modern physics.

Chemistry Section – WBJEE 2025
Chemistry was the easiest section for most students. Many questions were direct and NCERT-based, especially from inorganic chemistry like periodic trends, chemical bonding and coordination compounds. Physical chemistry questions were formula-based, while organic chemistry had basic reaction and concept-based questions, not very tricky. Students who revised NCERT properly scored well here.

Category-wise Observation (2025 Paper)
Category-1 questions were generally straightforward but negative marking made accuracy important. Category-2 questions were more calculation-heavy, mainly in Mathematics. Category-3 questions were conceptual and confusing, as they had multiple correct options, and students with partial knowledge struggled despite no negative marking.

What This Means for WBJEE 2026
WBJEE 2026 is expected to follow a similar pattern. Mathematics will likely remain lengthy, Physics concept-numerical based, and Chemistry NCERT-focused and scoring. Students should practice time management, selective attempting, and accuracy, especially in Mathematics and negative-marking sections, while using Chemistry to boost overall score.

Preparation Tips for Mathematics

1. Strong conceptual base and understanding the concepts should be the priority for the candidates

STUDY PLANS

3-Month Study Plan (WBJEE)
In the first month, focus on building strong basics by completing all Class 11 topics of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with daily concept revision and simple practice questions. In the second month, cover the entire Class 12 syllabus, give more time to high-weight chapters like calculus, algebra, electrostatics, current electricity, thermodynamics, organic chemistry and coordination compounds, and start solving previous year WBJEE questions chapter-wise. In the third month, shift fully to revision and practice, solve full-length mock tests every 2–3 days, analyze mistakes carefully, revise formulas and key concepts daily, and focus on accuracy due to negative marking.

6-Month Study Plan (WBJEE)
In the first two months, complete the Class 11 syllabus of all three subjects slowly and clearly with concept building and basic numerical practice. In the third and fourth months, cover the entire Class 12 syllabus, practice moderate to difficult questions, and begin solving WBJEE and JEE Main previous year questions topic-wise. In the fifth month, start full-syllabus revision, strengthen weak areas, and attempt section-wise and full mock tests weekly. OVERVIEW

WBJEE is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). The WBJEE exam is for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate (UG) courses in Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, and Architecture. Qualified candidates secure seats in various government, government-aided, and private colleges/institutes across West Bengal through centralized counselling. The exam is typically held in offline (OMR-based) mode, with two papers (Paper 1: Mathematics; Paper 2: Physics & Chemistry combined). It remains a key gateway for B.Tech, B.Pharm, and B.Arch programs in the state, with admissions based on WBJEE ranks (and limited seats via JEE Main for some private colleges).

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for WBJEE works in a series of stages that start after the exam and end with final admission: first, the WBJEE board issues rank cards to candidates based on their performance in the Mathematics and Physics-Chemistry papers — this rank determines the merit of each candidate for counselling and seat allotment.

Next, qualified candidates must register online for the WBJEE counselling on the official portal, pay the non-refundable counselling fee, and fill in their choices of colleges and courses in order of preference.

After choice locking, the board conducts seat allotment rounds, typically based on rank, category, preferences and seat availability, releasing results for each round online.

Once a seat is allotted, candidates must accept the seat by paying the acceptance fee and reporting to the reporting centre for document verification.

Some cycles include options for upgradation in subsequent rounds (for a better preferred college/branch) and mop-up/spot rounds for remaining seats. Finally, successful verification leads to formal admission at the allotted institute.
