Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
The NMIMS LAT 2025 exam was conducted as an online computer based test with 150 multiple choice questions to be solved in 120 minutes, and the test was divided equally across five sections of 30 questions each in Verbal Reasoning, General Knowledge including Current Affairs, Quantitative Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Legal Reasoning. Each question was worth one mark and there was no negative marking reported in the official handout and most analysis sources.
Students who appeared last year described the paper as moderately balanced, with some sections straightforward and others time consuming, and many test takers remarked that time management was the biggest challenge due to the length and breadth of the paper. Although some students found certain sections like logical reasoning and verbal tasks manageable, quantitative reasoning was often mentioned as relatively tougher and time intensive, requiring careful practice to complete in the allotted time.
SECTION WISE DIFFICULTY TRENDS
In Verbal Reasoning, candidates reported a mix of comprehension passages and grammar based items that took significant time due to long passages, even though the questions were moderate in difficulty overall. Some found this section lengthy rather than conceptually hard. Logical Reasoning was usually seen as moderate in difficulty with standard sets like series, patterns, and simple puzzles, but again the challenge was finishing all questions under time pressure.
Quantitative Reasoning was the section where many students struggled most, as it had a range of arithmetic and elementary math questions that were not conceptually complex but time consuming and calculation heavy, especially for those less confident with numbers. General Knowledge and Current Affairs tended to be moderate, mixing static general knowledge with recent events, while Legal Reasoning varied depending on the candidate’s comfort with hypothetical legal scenarios and interpretation of principles.
DIFFICULTY LEVEL AND PREPARATION INSIGHTS
Overall, the difficulty of NMIMS LAT 2025 was perceived as moderate, with no extreme surprises in individual sections but the total volume of questions and the constant pace required being the key challenge. Students emphasised that practicing section wise mock tests and previous year questions helped in pacing and accuracy. Many felt that aiming to solve as many questions as possible quickly—especially in Verbal and Logical sections—before moving on to Quantitative problems was crucial for a higher score.
Based on this analysis, for NMIMS LAT 2026 it is expected that the overall level will remain moderate to slightly challenging, with Verbal and Logical Reasoning offering scoring opportunities, while Quantitative Reasoning will continue being the section where careful time management makes the biggest difference. Practising full length mock tests under timed conditions and focusing on quick comprehension of passages and basic reasoning logic will be very helpful.

Study Tips
STUDY TIPS
The NMIMS LAT exam requires a balance of speed, accuracy, and logical thinking across multiple sections. First, understand the syllabus and exam pattern thoroughly, as it will help you prioritize sections where you can score maximum marks. Focus on Legal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning, as these sections carry significant weight and require conceptual clarity and practice with hypothetical scenarios. For Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, daily reading of editorials, newspapers, and comprehension practice helps improve speed and understanding.
Quantitative Techniques require daily practice of basic arithmetic, percentages, ratios, averages, time, work, and data interpretation problems, as time management is crucial. For General Knowledge and Current Affairs, maintain monthly compilations of important national and international events, legal updates, awards, and government schemes. Taking section-wise mock tests every week helps identify weak areas and track improvement. Time yourself during practice to simulate exam conditions. Additionally, revision and solving previous year NMIMS LAT papers is essential to familiarize yourself with the question style, level of difficulty, and time constraints.
3 MONTH STUDY PLAN
In the 3 month plan, focus is on intensive preparation and practice, assuming you have limited time. The first month should be spent on understanding the syllabus and strengthening fundamentals. Allocate 1 to 1.5 hours daily for Quantitative Techniques, 1 hour for Logical Reasoning, 1 hour for Legal Reasoning, 1 hour for Verbal Ability, and 30 minutes for Current Affairs. Solve previous year papers and topic-wise exercises in this phase.
In the second month, start taking sectional tests. Dedicate alternate days to full-length practice sessions of 60 to 90 minutes focusing on time management. Continue revising formulas, legal principles, and vocabulary daily. During this month, analyze mistakes in detail and focus on weak areas.
The third month should focus on full-length mock tests under exam conditions. Take at least 3 to 4 full-length tests per week and analyze scores carefully. Devote remaining time to revision of Legal Reasoning, important current affairs, tricky quantitative problems, and vocabulary. Time yourself strictly during tests, as NMIMS LAT requires quick thinking and rapid problem-solving.
6 MONTH STUDY PLAN
The 6 month plan allows gradual preparation with ample revision time. In the first 2 months, focus on building strong fundamentals. Spend 1 hour daily on Quantitative Techniques and Logical Reasoning each, 45 minutes on Legal Reasoning, 45 minutes on Verbal Ability, and 20 to 30 minutes on Current Affairs. Start reading editorials, legal news, and GK monthly compilations to develop awareness.
In months 3 and 4, start topic-wise practice and short tests. Attempt previous year questions for each section and track accuracy. Begin weekly sectional tests and maintain a record of scores to monitor improvement. Revise all formulas, legal concepts, vocabulary, and current affairs regularly. Time management should become a focus, attempting questions faster while maintaining accuracy.
In months 5 and 6, shift focus to full-length mock tests and intensive revision. Take at least 2 full-length tests per week in the fifth month and 3 to 4 in the final month. After each test, spend time analyzing strengths and weaknesses, and revise only the areas where mistakes were frequent. In the final month, focus on speed, accuracy, and exam temperament, revising key concepts, legal principles, and quantitative shortcuts. Avoid starting new topics in the last month and concentrate on practice, revision, and strategy refinement.

For example, in NMIMS LAT 2025 Phase 1, the merit list was declared on 21st April 2025 on the official website after the exam window ended. For Phase 2 in 2025, the second merit list was released in June 2025. Candidates can access their individual results by logging in with their credentials on the portal. The result or merit list shows the candidate’s score and rank position for further admission processes.
The result will be declared by the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies.Given below are the steps to view NMIMS LAT result:

Step 2: Click the ‘Result’ tab
Step 3: Click on the appeared course.

Step 6: Candidates should take an A 4 sized printout and keep it in a safe condition for further process.
COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS
After the results and merit lists are published for each phase, qualified candidates are called for the NMIMS LAT counselling process. Counselling typically starts soon after the merit list announcement and involves document verification, confirmation of program/campus preference, and seat allocation. In earlier cycles (like 2025), counselling for Phase 1 was held soon after merit list publication, and Phase 2 counselling took place in late June when the Phase 2 list was released. Shortlisted candidates must report with original documents and complete all formalities within the notified timelines to secure their seats.
LAST YEAR CUTOFFS (NMIMS LAT / NLAT 2025)
Unlike exams with fixed marks cut-offs, NMIMS LAT uses merit lists based on scores to determine who qualifies for counselling and admission. Official cut-off marks are generally not published publicly in a fixed number like some other exams; instead, NMIMS releases merit ranks and lists based on candidate performance. For Phase 1 2025, the merit list was released after the exam window in April 2025 and only those in that list were eligible for counselling. The performance required to make the list depends on the pool of candidates and the exam difficulty in that cycle.
Because NMIMS does not release official numerical cutoff marks for LAT as widely as some other tests, data on specific cut-off scores for law admission (like a minimum score) is not directly available from official sources online. What is clear from how NMIMS conducts its admissions is that the best performing candidates in each phase’s merit lists are invited for counselling.
EXPECTED CUTOFFS FOR NMIMS LAT 2026
There is no confirmed official cutoff figure yet for NMIMS LAT. However, based on previous years’ merit-based admissions and trends, the following expectations are reasonable:
For law admission through NMIMS LAT, a competitive score that places a candidate high in the merit list is essential. In general:
Candidates who score well across all sections and fall in the top percentile among all test-takers in any given phase are most likely to be shortlisted.
Since the exam is merit-based, the number of seats available and candidate performance distribution will determine the effective cutoff line on the merit list.
Because NMIMS LAT does not publish public fixed cutoff scores by marks, the best indicator of expected performance is to aim for a very high score relative to other candidates. Candidates should focus on maximising their overall performance across all sections to improve chances of appearing high in the final merit list.
