The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is set to close the online registration process for the Stenographer Grade C and Grade D Examination 2026 soon. Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official SSC website before the deadline of May 15, 2026.
This recruitment drive aims to fill approximately 731 vacancies across various ministries, departments, and subordinate offices under the Government of India. Applicants are encouraged to complete the registration process well in advance, as the application portal will close at 11 PM on the last date. SSC has confirmed that applications will be accepted only through online mode.
Important dates for SSC Stenographer 2026
Online application starts: April 24, 2026
Last date to apply: May 15, 2026 (until 11 PM)
Last date for fee payment: May 16, 2026 (until 11 PM)
Application correction window: May 20 to May 21, 2026 (until 11 PM)
Computer-Based Test (CBT): July–August 2026
Vacancy details
Around 731 posts have been announced for Grade C and Grade D stenographer positions. The detailed category-wise and post-wise breakup will be published later on the official SSC website. These posts fall under Group B and Group C services across different government departments.
Eligibility criteria
Educational qualification
Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board by August 1, 2026. Stenography skills are mandatory for eligibility.
Age limit:
Grade C: 18 to 30 years
Grade D: 18 to 27 years
Age will be calculated as of August 1, 2026, with relaxation applicable for SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, and ex-servicemen candidates as per government norms.
One Time Registration (OTR)
Applicants must complete OTR on the new SSC portal before applying. Registrations made on the previous SSC platform will not be valid. Aadhaar-based authentication is recommended for smoother verification.
Selection process
The recruitment process includes:
Computer-Based Examination (CBT)
Skill test (stenography)
Document verification
Final selection will depend on performance in the CBT and successful completion of all stages. Candidates must produce original documents during verification, failing which their candidature may be cancelled.
