Description
The Gujarat Right to Education (RTE) admission process for 2026 has officially begun. Online applications for Class 1 seats in private schools for children from economically weaker and middle-income families opened on April 4, 2026, and will remain available until April 17, 2026, with submissions accepted until midnight on the final day.
This year, private schools in Gujarat are offering over 84,000 seats, compared to 94,000 last year. As per RTE regulations, 25% of seats in each private school are reserved for children from weaker sections of society, based on last year’s admissions.
Seats and medium-wise availability
Gujarati medium: 41,000+ seats
English medium: 40,262 seats
Hindi medium: 2,235 seats
Other mediums: 320 seats
Officials from the Directorate of Primary Education have ensured that parents had sufficient time to gather all required documents to facilitate the application process.
This year, parents can also choose the preferred school and select the child’s shift (morning or afternoon), a facility not available in previous admission cycles.
Admission priorities and process
The RTE admissions 2026 have updated the priority list. Previously, children from anganwadi centres were given preference over other reserved category candidates. This year, children belonging to reserved categories will be prioritized.
Applications must be submitted through the official RTE portal. Parents are required to upload supporting documents during the online application process. Essential documents include:
Proof of date of birth (birth certificate issued by authorized agencies)
Proof of residence: Aadhaar card, passport, electricity or water bills, voter ID; rental agreements accepted only when other documents are unavailable (notarized agreements are not accepted)
Caste or category certificate issued by a competent authority
Income certificate valid as of April 1, 2023, or a self-declaration if no Income Tax returns exist
Additional certificates may be required for children in special categories, such as disabled children, orphaned children, or children of migrant workers.
